What Are You Wearing This Party Season? How About Janhvi's Golden Dress?

Remember the fashion from the late ’90s, spilling into the early Noughties? Alexander McQueen’s subversive couture collection of gilded outfits for Givenchy? Versace’s tribe of supermodels who literally sent the world into a tizzy in their chain mesh outfits that resembled molten gold? When it came to fashion, the precious metal was really having a golden moment.

Over two decades later, fashion’s obsession with the metallic colour, and a maximalist approach to clothes on a whole, seems to be making a full comeback. The proof? Janhvi Kapoor’s shiny draped dress which we think is also the perfect party dress inspiration you need this season.

The GenZ-friendly halter neck foiled number seen on Kapoor is from designer Aniket Satam’s new-age label, Pink Porcupines, where his designs are usually accompanied by a side of fun. “This particular look was inspired by Sridevi’s iconic look in the Hawa Hawaii song from Mr. India,” says Satam, whose idea is based on the re-emergence of statement dressing, now that stepping out doesn’t encompass a trip to the local grocery in a pair of tumble washed pyjamas.

The dress’s subversive sexiness is perfect for announcing a fashionable arrival at a party with little to no effort. We do, however, love Kapoor’s approach to it with bombshell blow-dried hair and bronzed makeup. Her button earrings can be swapped with dainty shoulder-dusting danglers that are all the rage this season, too, if you’re up for adding more drama to the look. She’s also sparking her own sub-trend of wearing perfectly mismatched accessories in both hands, so you can stack as many of those that you like without thinking so much about symmetry.

The outfit is also multifarious and perfect for women who are looking for dress options that can be reworn in multiple ways. According to Satam, the foiled pieces can be worn together or separately and styled in new ways to breathe new life into the same look every time you wear it. “The draped halter can be worn with high waisted black denims and a pair of boots, too. The mini can be teamed with a classic knit sweater, a neutral cashmere cardigan, or a failsafe black polo neck jumper and a statement choker,” says the designer.

A look that’s headline-making, multifaceted, and perfect for the party season!
