If you’ve been keeping up with everything Festival de Cannes 2022, you would’ve caught sight of Tamannaah Bhatia’s smouldering look. With lime yellow-green taking most of the spotlight, there was a hint of lavender in her outfit. As an extension of that lilac, her makeup boasted a full-fledged purple-mauve theme. It’s fair to say that she looked like a million bucks in the Spanish fast-fashion brand Bershka’s suit and the stellar vibrant makeup done by celebrity makeup artist Florian Hurel. What appealed to me most, however, was her makeup that looks so versatile and achievable yet statement-making. We spoke to Florian, who gave us a complete lowdown of the look.
The Starting Steps
I was particularly taken by the colour-blocking element of her look. When asked about the inspiration behind the look, Florian was quick to answer, “Makeup cannot always be about matching the outfit. It primarily has to complement the entire look and so the all-purple and mauve theme seemed to be perfect. The idea of keeping it classy and chic has inspired the look.” A glance at her base is enough to leave you impressed – it’s matte, airbrushed and so very climate-appropriate. “Skin prep before starting the make up and then blending along with the right foundation is the key to a perfect airbrushed look,” quotes Florian. I emphasise on picking the right liquid makeup formula for your skin and blending it out really well. That’s key. After all, it’s not the coverage (or amount of product), it’s the technique; Florian states, “Tamanna does not need a lot of coverage on her skin,” when he was asked about the lovely finish of the base.
Sculpt & Define
Her cheeks are supremely sculpted, and look beautiful this way. The catch? There’s more use of blush than a contour to achieve that definition – her plum-toned cheekbones are proof. “Makeup is all about maintaining a balance of products and shades. The matching tone of the blush played along with the eyes really well,” explains Florian. Ideally, you’d want to add a light swipe of cool-toned contour and place the blush right above it. The blush must be given more weightage. And, all things matte … or velvet matte. See how the skin right below the contour is brightened? Using a highlighting concealer for the same and set it with some powder. A finely milled highlighter is used sparingly on the high-points of the face.
The Eyes
“I am fond of using cream products for my makeup. The base was set up using cream shadow and further enhancement was achieved using powder shadows. All the products are from Tom Ford,” cites Florian. “Also, as the shadow on the eyes is cream-based with shiny pigments, using a matte foundation helped enhance the look,” he adds. The eyes are unequivocally the star of the look. There’s a heavy use of hues of purples, mauves and hints of rose pink in both metallic and matte finishes – mostly metallic. “To define the eyes better I lined it using black kohl very close to the lash line. And using slightly more than usual mascara helped to lift up the eyes,” divulges Florian.
The Climax
The lips are soft, exude a velvet-matte finish and champion the mauve-nude colour. The perfect finishing touch to bring the look to life. “As per my experience in this field over the years, I have been consistently using Tom Ford and Fenty Beauty products for most of my looks. These products are perfect for Indian skin tones,” affirms Florian as he gives us a sneak-peek of the hero products used to create this look. It’s very simple to carry this look from AM to PM, “I’d say this could very much be perfect for the night. However, maybe a little more black kohl could be used,” he mentions.
