Flashes of Priyanka Chopra Jonas dancing to the beats of Desi Girl had taken over my mind (and heart) for a very, very long time after Dostana had released. As a teenager, I was mesmerised by how she made a sari look so global, so chic and contemporary, and exuded high-voltage glamour in every part of the song. A few days back, I was taken right back to that time, when I saw PCJ’s all-black sari look that she sported at one of the pre-Oscars events dedicated to celebrating South-Asian talent. Honestly, she looked like that very same Desi Girl, with more poise and oomph, if that's possible. Today’s note – decoding her stunning makeup, done by makeup artist Carola Gonzalez, that complemented the gorgeous JADE by Monica and Karishma sari beautifully.
- To achieve a base that looks like second skin, it is essential to prep it well, with skincare products that are season-appropriate as well as suit your skin. Use a hydrating moisturiser, preferably infused with hyaluronic acid, that plumps and softens the skin. Add a mattifying primer and strobing cream in that order to strike a balance between sheen and no sheen. Finally, apply some matte foundation (give a super full coverage one a toss here because you wanna look natural). After buffing it in well, brighten the usual highpoints of the face with a concealer.
- Before proceeding with contour and blush, make sure to powder up your base well. Move onto a warm bronzer for a super, duper sunkissed look and sweep it all across the cheekbones. Layer it up with a warm coral blush and add some cream highlighter (or powder – if you have a super finely milled one) and make sure none of the elements showcase harsh edges.

- For the eyes – quite the statement element too – prep the lids with a primer and concealer and lock the cream-based products in with a powder. You’d then wanna go ahead and brush some skin-like eyeshadow all over the lids. Once blended well, take a liquid eyeliner and an eyeliner brush and carve a precise, very catty wing eyeliner. Complete the eye look with a lengthening mascara and copious coats of eyebrow gel, preferably tinted.
PS: You can fill in your brows with a pencil, if you fancy, especially towards the end to achieve that thickness and bushiness.
- Finally for that sultry nude pout, pick up a cool-toned nude brown lip pencil and outline your lips well. Make sure to add some lip salve before doing so. Go ahead and glide a creamy nude lipstick (matching the lip liner or ever so slightly lighter) for opaque colour payoff. To boost the tenderness, add a coat of some nude or clear lip oil.
And you're ready to dazzle like our Desi Girl!
