Pre-Draped Saris That Belong in Your Modern Wardrobe

There are two types of women in the sari wearing space – one who can make pleats like they can make pancakes; perfectly  and the other whose hand-eye coordination goes for a complete toss when it comes to draping. But your proficiency or its lack thereof should never have to become a deciding factor when it comes to wearing a sari. Luckily for us, designers far and wide have made modifications to the sari that eliminates the need to tuck, pleat, and drape them. They come as separates that can be worn like a skirt and a blouse, and some in gown-like silhouettes held in place by fastening a single zip.

Whether you are a draping expert or otherwise, these pre-draped saris mentioned below are great to get to know. Have a look!

The dramatic, hyper-constructed pallu is the perhaps the best thing about this sari, but so is the metallised salmon pink, and the silver blouse that slashes across the back. For women unafraid of wearing avant-garde designs, Amit Aggarwal’s collections have plenty to offer.

Speaking of dramatic, this Gaurav Gupta number with gargantuan ruffles is what couture dreams are made of. The highly wired pallu aside, what makes this sari so much more interesting is the embellished blouse with just one sleeve.

A style that is simple and manages to pack a mighty punch is this periwinkle blue pre-draped sari with fringe detailing from 431-88 by Shweta Kapur. When it comes to Indian saris, chic minimalism doesn’t look better than this.

Seema Gujral

For the maximalists, this high-octane silver sari from designer Seema Gujral is perfect. The sari itself is highly textured, made with crinkled lurex, and features a low-cut blouse that’s embellished with Swarovski crystals. Our suggestion? Go easy on the jewellery and let the saree shine, literally.

Injected with Aisha Rao’s trademark romanticism, this pre-pleated sari with soft feminine ruffles attached along the edge is great for women whose sense of style is tad bohemian. Made with organza and georgette, this sartorial heavyweight is actually super light.

Leave it to Tarun Tahiliani to make the most alluring creations using his signature drapes. The concept sari, as the designer calls it, fuses the ultra-modern silhouette effortlessly with traditional elements. This piece also features exquisite pearl embroidery on the yoke of the draped blouse and on the saree kalis.

Ridhi Mehra

Soft feminine ruffles pre-draped in a lehenga-sari hybrid silhouette in muted, pastel shades – this is designer Ridhi Mehra’s trademark aesthetic. The blouse, hand-embroidered with infinite minuscule beads, adds a nice contrast to the otherwise plain sari. Part of Mehra's wedding edit, this design is perfect to wear to an intimate ceremony.
