We know that you have a beauty shelf stacked with acids, actives and serums to tick every skin concern that you face. A routine infused with such products is great for the skin but may get a little overwhelming at times. So, it’s nice to give this solid routine a break every once in a while and opt for something natural that you can DIY, it’s fun to do and gentler on the skin. Today, the case in point is dark spots and pigmentation. Let’s see what our kitchen has in store for this.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a gem when it comes to beauty and skincare. Found in most products today, aloe or aloe water (or juice) is an instant pick-me-up for your skin. Besides glowing and healthy skin, it also helps with spots and pigmentation. Remember when your mother would apply some fresh gel on a scar or mark? Apply exactly the same logic here and diminish the appearance of marks, spots and uneven skin tone with aloe. Aloe vera contains aloin and aloesin that helps with pigmentation.

Turmeric

Turmeric holds a key spot in Indian beauty history and has been passed through generations like a tradition. From applying turmeric as a pre-wedding ritual to using it as a weekly mask, turmeric has been around since what seems like forever. Turmeric is known for its antibacterial and antiseptic properties but is also an excellent brightener. Make a bespoke mask with turmeric, sandalwood powder, gram flour, honey and curd to cancel out dullness and unevenness for a radiant complexion.

Coffee

It’s impossible to browse for skincare products and not find a section devoted to coffee. Of course, the ingredient is exceptionally great for exfoliation while taking care of many other concerns too. Loaded with antioxidants and caffeine, coffee is great to tone the skin for an even look. This means it helps with pigmentation and dark patches (think dark circles or areas around the mouth) for a brighter looking skin.

Yogurt

If the pigmentation on your skin is a result of sudden (or irregular) overexposure to the sun, trust dairy-based yogurt to help. Milk-based yogurts are packed with lactic acid (naturally) that are known to target pigmentation and dark spots and reduce their appearance visibly. Apply some cold yogurt to the face directly and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes before you wash it off with lukewarm water.
