Unless you have the superpower to stay away from social media for days in a row, you’re aware of how Demna broke the internet with Balenciaga’s 51st couture show that was inundated with all kinds of stars – from pop sensation Dua Lipa, Nicole Kidman, supermodels Naomi Campbell and Bella Hadid, to, of course, Kim Kardashian, muse and quasi-ambassador of the house – the biggest names walked for the Georgian designer.
It wouldn’t be a hyperbole if we said that we knew what Kim, who has been sporting Balenciaga everywhere since her love affair with the brand started last year, will wear on her next few outings – think futuristic snug-fitting neoprene bodysuits, dresses, and pantsuits. In fact, she didn’t even wait long to flex her Balenciaga power. For the post-show dinner, Kim Kardashian turned up in a dress inspired by one of the looks of the couture show, and paired it with that face shield.
Kim Kardashian wore a black sequin full-length dress with full-sleeves and inundated with kira-kira sequins, inspired by look no. 15 from the show. The jury is still out on whether she had her full face makeup done considering that we couldn’t see any of it under the face shield – a mainstay in this year’s futuristic couture line up at the fashion house. The face shield, we learn, is made in collaboration with Mercedes-AMG and is made of tinted polyurethane and uses state-of-the-art anti-fogging technology.
For someone who is practically in the public eye, and seems to enjoy the attention that comes along with it, Kim’s face-covering stints are as surprising as they are misunderstood. For those who have forgotten, one of Kim’s most famous masked moments was at the Met Gala 2021 when she turned up in a head-to-toe black outfit. In fact, the only give away that it was indeed Kim was the silhouette, instantly recognisable because of its idiosyncratic Kim proportions. Makes us wonder if fame comes at a price? Anyway, theological observations aside, what do you think of Kim’s Balenciaga face shield?
