Question
Does too much heat on the hair damage it?
Answer by Dr Jeet Gore:
Too much heat on your hair can cause the cuticles of your hair strands to be stripped off or break away from the surrounding fibres. Heat instantly drains the moisture from your hair, which can cause the outer layer, i.e. the cuticle, to expand and release moisture of your strands that were trapped in.
You can avoid this to some extend by using heat protect sprays or serums, or even leave-in conditioners can assist in retaining additional moisture for your strands to absorb. Stop damaging the damaged hair any further. Avoid heat and chemical treatments until the hair is restored to its smooth state. Choose your shampoo and conditioner containing natural oils and natural fruit extracts works well, as it gently coats your hair, prevents water loss and avoids heavy product build-up on hair.
Lukewarm water is key. Oiling the hair an hour before a wash may help restore the hair moisture faster.
