The colours of your bedroom walls have a significant impact on the quality of your sleep. If you are having trouble choosing a colour for your bedroom, choose hues that match your furniture and bedding. Both dark and light hues are capable of transforming your bedroom into a new design.

“Decorating one's own space is a highly satisfying experience. The objective is not to make it flawless, but to maintain it organised and fill it with keepsakes from your life and experiences,” explains Ami Sata, Founder, Amouve. “To enhance the dark hues, you may want to choose lighter bedding if you've selected dark charcoal reds, navy blues, deep blacks, warm browns, and dramatic mauves,” she adds listing how the colours accentuate the look and feel of one’s bedroom.

Layering Bed Sheets
It is easy to overlook a small detail like the colour of your bed sheet. On most occasions, it would be covered with a duvet, or a comforter. This is when layering bedsheets come in. If you could pair complementary bed sheets one over another with little peeks out, and place a duvet, or comforter over those sheets, it would be a fantastic design element in your bedroom. If you have a beige bedroom, you could pile blues and whites on your bed to give it a nautical touch.

Let's Bust Some Myths

If you have a tiny studio apartment, it is usually advised to go for a lighter colour. However, it does not work. Lighter colours would not illuminate your room if it was starved of space. It is the opposite. Your beige or white walls require space to refract and spread sunlight throughout the room. If you have a larger bedroom with a sizable spaced bedroom you could go for dark, offset colours. There is no proof that dark colours would not give you a good night’s rest.

Not So Great For Stains But Best For Adaptability

If you love eating in bed, white, beige, or lighter bed sheets are not good for you. It is very difficult to remove stains from white or wheatish bed sheets. However, white bed sheets are perhaps the most versatile design element you could include in your bed. They not only complement every colour, but are also light and breathable. You could pair your curtains with bed sheets for balance.

The psychology of colours may not be your top criteria in choosing your bedding colour. But, if you have sleeping problems, you may want to think twice about the colour of your bed sheets.

A dark blue bed sheet would complement the lighter tones of your walls very much. Like the midnight blue of the night sky entices us and comforts us, a deep blue bed sheet would be equally soothing.

A light blue sheet would be breathable and comfortable. The colour reminds us of a happy summer's day. A light blue shade bed sheet could act as a base for prints and patterns. It would complement any dark wall colour of your bedroom. You could use lace curtains for windows and include colourful cushions and pillows to balance it out.
