Injuries, burns, acne, pimples and medical treatments can all leave behind scars on your face and body. These permanent marks can also discolour your skin, and let’s not forget that they are difficult to deal with. Often, scars do not fade completely, but they can become lighter over time. If you’re not up for any invasive or abrasive skin treatments to remove scars, you can turn to several natural remedies for the same.
Dr Nivedita Dadu, Dermatologist, Founder and Chairman of Dadu Medical Centre, shares some DIY home remedies for scars.

Use baking soda, which is a natural exfoliator and helps to gently scrape the scar. Take two parts of water and one part of baking soda to make a paste. Apply this paste on the scar and scrub gently for a few minutes before washing it off. Avoid rubbing vigorously or you could damage your skin.
Make coconut oil a part of your daily skincare regimen. This wonder oil can heal or help fade old scars as it is rich in omega fatty acids that penetrate and moisturise the skin, restoring its glow.
Aloe vera contains anti-microbial properties and has many benefits for the skin. If you have a lot of old scars, use the magic of aloe gel to boost skin cell regeneration. Aloe vera also reduces skin irritation and improves skin texture.

Facial scars can be minimised with different vitamin supplements. Extract the oil from a vitamin E capsule and apply it to your scars before going to bed. This works as an effective method to fade stubborn spots and scars.
Potato juice contains phytochemicals that help cleanse the skin and lighten pigmentation or spots. It also replenishes the skin and makes it clear. To fade scars, take two tablespoons of potato juice and apply onto affected areas using a cotton ball. Allow to sit for a few minutes before washing it off from your face. Use this remedy for scars a couple of times weekly.
Apply freshly squeezed lemon juice to scars using a cotton ball or soft cloth. Wash off after a few minutes. The acidic nature of lemon juice helps remove dead skin cells along facial scars and also reduces redness.
