We’re privy to the workings of Deepika Padukone’s headline-grabbing looks that have been crowding our Instagram matrices more often than any other celebrity. After a slew of gowns and dresses at the Cannes Film Festival and the Cartier High Jewelry event, Deepika gave us a palate cleanser look of sorts with a kurta set that she wore to the Konkani Sammelan hosted in San Jose. Not only did we love her look, we’re keen on drawing inspiration from it and wearing it to the next wedding we are invited to.
Deepika’s straight-fit bandhani kurta is from designer Sabyasachi’s RTW line. It features crinkled silk in fuschia and features intricate handmade embroidery in the quintessential paisley pattern on the simple round neck in the front that extends all the way down to the navel with matching embroidery on back below the nape. She’s worn the three-fourth sleeves kurta with golden straight leg satin pants with applique on the pants’ legs. There’s also a matching diaphanous organza dupatta with embroidered floral motifs throughout.
The actor has kept her look simple with clean dewy makeup and her trademark bun. She’s also kept the accessories to a minimum with ornate chandbali earrings and golden stilettos.
How To Recreate the Deepika Look
Deepika’s kurta look is perfect for adapting into a wedding-guest look. One can mix and match a straight-fit kurta, preferably in a jewel tone with embroideries done on the cuffs and the neck, and pair it with palazzo or straight leg pants in matching or contrast colour. You can go sans the dupatta for a laidback look or look toward a net or tulle version. For a more ceremonial look, you can even wear a banarasi brocade silk kurta with matching or plain pants.
A high-neck kurta can also be accessorised with a snug-fitting choker if you are someone who prefers jewellery in the neck than in the ears. Consider navratan chokers that have made a huge comeback this wedding season instead of a plain kundan one. A jadau or kundan ring can also be thrown into the look for making it more wedding-worthy. Finish the look with wedges if you’re looking for a more comfortable footwear option or turn toward stilettos like Deepika.
However you decide to style it, there’s no wrong way of wearing a Deepika-inspired straight fit kurta this wedding season.
