Chef Sanjeev Kapoor's Story
Chef Sanjeev Kapoor has been supporting the Akshaya Patra programme for over a decade
Few know that celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor has long been associated with Akshaya Patra, the world's largest NGO-run mid-day meal programme that serves wholesome school lunches to over 1.7 million children in 14,702 schools across 12 states in India. As part of this, Sanjeev has run fundraisers across the world; he accepts invitations to cook, and the money goes directly to Akshaya Patra. Under this collaboration, he has managed to raise $1.5 million for Akshaya Patra.
Additionally, for over 15 years now, he has been closely working with autistic children by supporting the NGO Forum for Autism. He also tries to provide employment to autistic adults in his company in order to support them and their families.
The Padma Shri awardee is well known as one of India's foremost food personalities and culinary entrepreneurs; this is one side of his larger-than-life persona that he is very modestly understated about.
